There’s a new coupon site on the rise, and it just might change everything. Described as a “Groupon killer”, LocalBlip is a startup based in Fort Lauderdale, FL that operates the world’s first completely free coupon marketing platform.
LocalBlip was founded in 2012 by Nick Mazzio, a longtime entrepreneur with a passion for helping small businesses. Mazzio’s inspiration came at an unlikely moment. “I was posting a set of tables and chairs to sell on Craigslist when the idea hit me; why not create a coupon site based on the same premise as Craigslist?”, he explained. “Allow the merchants to sign up and post their discounts for free.”
In the four years since its founding, LocalBlip has grown from an idea to a venture capital-backed startup currently worth $2 million with a rapidly growing member base. According to Mazzio, “Businesses love LocalBlip because it’s free, powerful and easy to use; consumers love LocalBlip because it helps them save money while supporting the small businesses in their community.” And those savings are bigger than you might think- LocalBlip estimates that the average member saves $25 within their first month using the platform.
Unlike sites like Groupon, LocalBlip doesn’t require consumers to pay for their coupons upfront. They also don’t ask for any credit cards or personal information- signing up takes less than one minute, and all you need is an email address. LocalBlip coupons (or Blips) can be printed or redeemed digitally through their mobile app. Members are notified whenever there’s a new Blip near them, and businesses can send emails or push notifications directly to local consumers.
The deals currently on offer include everything from free beer to $100 off dog training. Most of the Blips on the site are located in South Florida, but Mazzio says more are coming soon. “We’re getting ready to make LocalBlip a nationwide community. Sign up even if you can’t find any Blips near you- you’ll be the first to know when they’re created.”
Want to join the LocalBlip movement? Go to and sign up- it’s free and takes less than a minute. LocalBlip also has a mobile app currently available for iOS and Android.
